Dr. Jesse Bell of the North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies said that preparing a disaster response and understanding the many complex ways in which extreme weather events affect health is essential. In addition, health centers must investigate vulnerabilities in the local infrastructure in order to guarantee the safety of staff and patients in the event of an extreme event, since for example there are hospitals that are located in areas prone to hurricanes.
