Rain is a meteorological phenomenon that, at least in our country and specifically in the driest regions, is usually very well received. But, Have you ever wondered which is the rainiest place in Spain? As curious as it may seem, it is not Galicia. It is true that most of the storms enter there, but for it to precipitate, a series of conditions must be met; and it is there where the orography, the direction and intensity of the wind, as well as the altitude determine the amount of water that is collected in an area.
So let us discover where is the place where you have to protect yourself with an umbrella, As minimum.
As we know, it does not rain with the same intensity nor does it fall the same amount in Madrid as in Murcia for example. And we live in a country with different orographies: we have mountain ranges, coasts, central systems. Further, not all the territory has the same month with abundant rains, as you can see in the image below.
Thus, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) the rainiest place in Spain is the Sierra de Grazalema, in Cadiz. We tend to think, not without reason, that Andalusia is a territory where the weather is always good, but the truth is that this community does not have a uniform shape. The wet wind from Poniente favors the most suitable conditions for rain. And it does so well that it is recorded, on average, more than 2100mm of water per yearThey have even been exceeded 4000mm.
Of course, Galicia follows very closely, specifically the Sierra de O Candán in Pontevedra, or the Sierra de Gredos in the Central System, where they have fallen almost 4000mm in just one year.
