Aid plan for the drought in Bolivia

drought in bolivia

Climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of droughts around the world. In Bolivia, water resources are scarce and that is why they are beginning to develop aid projects for water storage and irrigation that can compensate for the drought.

The drought that is taking place in Bolivia it is the most severe in the last 25 years. What projects exist to alleviate the problems of the drought?

Help in Action

A project of the NGO Ayuda en Acción (AA) tries to alleviate the problems of the drought in Bolivia and has received the IV International Prize for Cooperation and Development, in this year's edition of the José Entrecanales Ibarra awards.

The head of Institutional Relations of AA, Marta Marañón, is the one who has collected the award in an act that has been presided over by King Felipe VI. The cause of the award is the great work that has been developed in this project throughout 2016 in the Andean region Azurduy. The organization Ayuda en Acción offers help to build a dam to help retain and store water against drought. Further, They have managed to help 15 colinar lagoons and 30 ferro-cement ponds that already supply water to 2.000 inhabitants of the area.

Many projects that have been carried out in this area fail once completed because they cannot be sustained. However, this project will have continuity since Bolivian society is the one that has participated in the development of infrastructures from the beginning. This indicates that they will be the ones who will work hard to maintain the infrastructures and ensure their well-being.

It is climate change that is causing more and more droughts and more difficult water storage in many countries of the world.
