Moving for Climate NOW: sport as a fight against climate change

There are many ways to fight climate change, but very few serve as much to raise awareness among as many people as the initiative Moving for Climate NOW, a cycling route that has departed from Seville to the headquarters of the Climate Summit (COP 22), in Marrakech.

A multidisciplinary team of 50 professionals from different companies, institutions and organizations committed to the fight gathered with the sole objective of Create awareness by all the cities that pass on how important and urgent it is to fight against climate change.

The itinerary comprises 10 stages and will cover more than 1.100 kilometers. At the end of each one, a debate is held among all those who participate about climate change. Each day, one of the subject matter experts talks about a related topic, such as energy, corporate responsibility, finance or sustainability. In this way, All those who attend can learn, from the hand of professionals, what are the effects of climate change and what can be done to avoid disaster.

The initiative, which has been organized by the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact together with Iberdrola, has a web page in which the day-to-day of the route is reported. Sonia Castañeda, the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, stressed that climate change is both a collective and individual responsibility, and that »This cycling community symbolizes that every little gesture, every pedal stroke is important and can take us far in the fight».
