CO2LABORA, an app to learn more about climate change

Climate Change

Technology can go a long way in tackling climate change. How? With a mobile application that allows you to learn more about your daily actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, like carbon dioxide.

CO2WORKS, which is how the app is called, has been developed by a team of students from the Technological Institute of Colima and the University of Colima (Ucol) located in Mexico.

Alexis Maturano Melgoza, a computer science student at the Institute, said that with the CO2LABORA program, it seeks to raise awareness about CO2 emissions, and not only that, but it will also be possible to create a network to help with simple actions but effective and thus gradually reduce emissions. For this reason, the data is shared on Facebook, »challenging» someone to improve the environment with their actions, but without ever forgetting the main function of the app, which is inform about climate change and what we can do to take care of the planet.

To use it correctly, in the start form you have to put the bi-monthly consumption of kilowatts, the weekly consumption of liters of gasoline, the consumption of liters of gas, the frequency of loading and what percentage of the garbage generated week after week is recycled.

In addition, it has several sections, such as the Eko-ranking, in which you will know how you can help the planet and advice; and of emissions, thanks to which you can evaluate your CO2 emissions as many times as you want and, if not, you will receive a reminder.

If you follow all the advice he gives you, the electricity bill will decrease by 30%, according to Melgoza explained. And as if that were not enough, you will also reduce the cost of gasoline, because you will emit less carbon dioxide.

The application will be available for July at iOS y Android.
