Two days ago the province of Malaga was surprised by a very typical meteorological phenomenon in the Cantabrian area: the gale. These are strong winds that can reach up to 60 kilometers per hour caused by the presence of a cold and humid air mass that causes the humidity to reach 75%.
The phenomenon that has occurred in Malaga is much less powerful than the one that occurs in the north Of the peninsula, so it is called a mini gale.
The gales are very typical meteorological phenomena of the Cantabrian area and they are characterized by strong winds accompanied by sudden changes in temperatures and unexpected storms. In Malaga, this phenomenon has been much less powerful as the winds have reached 50 kilometers an hour and the temperatures have plummeted by 5 to 10 degrees. That is why in the Mediterranean area they are known as the mini galleries.
In this area, such a phenomenon occurs when suddenly the wind that blows from the west changes abruptly to the east wind. A cold mass enters the eastern and Mediterranean area of the peninsula causing such gusts of wind and high humidity. As a curiosity, it should be said that the word galerna comes from the French galerne and refers to the wind that blows from the northwest.
The inhabitants of Malaga have lived and suffered during these days two totally different weather phenomena. On the weekend they suffered the so-called terral with temperatures above 30 degrees and with a really suffocating sensation in the whole environment while two days ago they suffered from the mini gale with strong spells of time and a marked drop in temperatures. These are two very typical phenomena of the spring months.
