Living on a tropical island can be a real wonder, especially when you don't have to worry about drought: the climate is mild all year round, there are beaches that are full of life, jungles with a multitude of plants and animals unique in the world ... But due to climate change, can also be dangerous.

In Vanuatu the sea level rises faster than in any other part of the world. The average is 6 millimeters per year since 1993 (11 centimeters in total), while elsewhere the average is between 2,8 and 3,6mm / year, so this magnificent insulting country is seriously threatened.

So he has made it known Greenpeace, who, together with actor and model Jon Kortajarena, has made an expedition to Vanuatu to see first-hand what it is like to live there, visiting communities that have already had to move as a result of rising sea levels. The country is so vulnerable that this phenomenon currently threatens 100.000 people. But this is not the only problem.

Tropical storms are another of the worst threatened in the country, affecting 30.000 people. This means that half of Vanuatu's population is exposed to natural disasters each year.

Greenpeace spokeswoman, Pilar Marcos, declared that "it is not about being alarmists, but scientists announce that time is running out: If adequate measures are not taken before 2020, it will be increasingly difficult to prevent the planet's temperature from rising above 1,5ºC.. Limit above which the worst phenomena caused by climate change are very likely to take place. '

He also said that in 2011 34% of the energy demanded by Vanuatu came from renewable sources, and they expect that by 2030 it will be 100%, which gives a lot to think about. Does the human being only do something really effective when a problem affects him directly? If so, it will be very difficult for the planet Earth to remain as beautiful when we adults of today leave them to the adults of tomorrow.
