The Balearic archipelago is experiencing a few years of tourist success. The vast majority of hotels are fully booked which, combined with the tourist rental, tourists can choose where to stay. But the truth is that this, although it brings money to the islands, also brings problems.
For some of them, the Balearic Islands are news more and more frequently: uncivil behavior, kilometer traffic jams, destruction of the few natural areas that remain to be built, ... but now there will be one more reason: the air pollution by the increase in car rental; an air that everyone, residents and tourists, breathes.
It is not known how many rent a car vehicles circulate on the islands' roads, but it is estimated that there are More than 90.000 only in Mallorca. What is this lack of control due to? Well basically what, Although car rental companies are required to register with the Ministry of Tourism, the truth is that few do. Last year, only 70 of the 180 did so, as reported by the Diario de Mallorca in his day.
The Balearic Islands are in fashion, so while we wait for other traditionally tourist countries to recover, tourists decide to spend their vacations there. And of course, many of them choose to rent a car, since it gives them much more freedom. But this cannot go on like this, so the Govern has drawn up a document to warn of the serious environmental consequences of these vehicles.
Specifically, it states that »the increase in this type of vehicle causes problems on the roads, parking problems, crowds in tourist areas and the increase in environmental pollution and global warming due to CO2 emissions».
Thus, this could be the solution to problems related to Balearic tourism.
