Are we acting or waiting for climate change?

Climate change is the worst threat that planet Earth and human beings have. There is a lot of talk in the media about climate change. The causes of why it originates, the impacts they produce both in nature and in humans, etc. That is why we can say that the problem that we face in the future and that we are already seeing the consequences, has an incredibly important magnitude.

Almost always, when we talk about climate change and global warming, we talk about future generations and being able to give them a hopeful and sustainable future. However, We are already seeing the effects of climate change. Droughts are increasing, extreme weather events are more frequent and damaging, temperatures are rising all over the world and every day the planet has less biodiversity.

The events that occur today related to climate change have a magnitude greater than that estimated in the forecasts made by scientists. Despite the efforts in the media to warn about climate change, it seems that alarm messages are not reaching the population. Citizens have closer problems to attend to and worry about. Regarding the political leaders of the countries, the message does not seem to get to him either, since they have short-term development minds.

On April 22, 155 countries signed the Paris Agreement against climate change. The event was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York and marked a before and after in the fight against climate change at a global level. The agreement will enter into force once than 55 countries representing at least 55% of broadcasts have deposited the instrument of ratification, which normally passes through a parliamentary agreement. In other words, the responsibility for the Paris Agreement to go ahead and have results depends mostly on the countries that release the most greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

The political effort to stop climate change is minimal

As always happens, the most vulnerable countries have different emergencies than developed countries. That is, the urgency of the developing countries does not coincide with the interests of those countries with a more powerful economy. Again we find a scenario in which those most affected by the effects of climate change are those with the least voice and vote have when it comes to putting solutions.

We know that we are breaking a record for the highest global temperatures since temperature measurement began and even so, the solutions established do not meet the requirements nor are they carried out quickly enough to slow or halt the effects of climate change. The year 2016 started with abnormally higher temperatures than even last year, yet efforts to reduce this are just poor compromises that try not to exceed the two-degree rise in global temperature.

droughts

Droughts will become longer and more frequent

The most disturbing thing about this agreement is that unfortunately, although they set a binding global objective, the countries they have no obligation to achieve those goals. That is, if today, the countries that sign the Paris Agreement do not achieve the established objective, the global average temperature would rise by three degrees.

The outlook is very gloomy for those countries that suffer extreme droughts leading to major social and health problems such as famines, diseases, extreme floods that force the abandonment of homes, etc. The effects of climate change are increasingly accentuated, we will witness longer and harsher droughts, more damaging and frequent floods, however, the powerful They only look for money and self-interest.

affects-health

The media do everything possible to inform the population of the effects of climate change

That is why the world demands that there be more political gestures, more acts of reflection and equality, more empathy with countries that urgently need changes and guarantee an effective reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The task we have pending is not easy, but it is urgent and necessary.
