As people are talking more and more every day, the drought in Spain is very serious. The records at the reservoir levels are below the mean and They have never been this low since 1990. With the start of this hydrological year, the accumulated water of the reservoirs has barely changed in recent weeks, despite the rains.
What situation are we in?
The level of water that has accumulated in the reservoirs has not changed for a long time, despite the rains. That is, the little that rains is consumed in a matter of days. The total volume impounded has only increased by 0,1%, which is hardly anything with respect to to the total volume of the previous week (36,5%). These data are collected by statistics from the Ministry of the Environment.
Normally, the water reserves are continually being depleted. This is the first time since May that the water level has not dropped. But this does not indicate improvement, since it would be normal for it to increase.
Thus, the accumulated level of water stands at 20.475 cubic hectometres (hm3) with an increase of 29 cubic hectometres in a week in which rainfall has affected the basins of the Atlantic slope, with the maximum in Santiago de Compostela, where 140 liters per square meter were collected.
The basins that have a much more unfavorable situation, reaching their limits it is that of Segura, at 13,7%, and Júcar at 25%. Both have registered a small increase this last week. But if the situation continues like this, it will be consumed in a few days.
So that you can get an idea of the water that is dammed in Spain, here is a table where the total capacity in cubic hectometres, the current and the percentage of dammed water are collected, by hydrographic basins:
The situation in Spain is extremely alarming.
