Earth is red hot

Temperature anomaly

In recent years the words climate change and global warming are the main protagonists of the news. Although they are phenomena that have happened before and that will happen again in the future, what is happening today is getting worse due to the impact that humans have on the environment.

The situation is very serious. From 1880 to 2012, the global mean temperature increased by 0,85ºC, which has caused the reduction of the ice surface of the Poles and the consequent rise in sea level.

This is often thought of as just words, or very distant deeds. But the reality is that it is happening. The continuous emission of polluting gases is putting us all in danger. And if we needed more proof that this is a real phenomenon, antti lipponen, physicist at the Finnish Meteorological Institute, created a animated graph in which we can see how the global temperature has changed around the world.

At first, you can see blue and green bars, but over the years the temperature of each country increases and they begin to stain red, until finally in 2016 all the bars are red and yellow-reddish.

»There is no country that stands out clearly from the graph. Warming is truly global, not local'Liponnen told Climate central. And although in 2010 the governments agreed that it is necessary to reduce emissions to avoid that the average temperature does not rise more than 2ºC, unfortunately it seems that the Paris Agreement will not be enough to avoid the consequences.

Little by little, slowly but surely, planet Earth is warming up. In the coming years it is more than likely that records will continue to be broken, unless the situation changes drastically.

You can see the graph here.
