The Aftermath of Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey, seen from satellite

It's been a week since we wrote about the hurricane that could hit Texas, hurricane harvey. It even reached category 4, a force much greater than expected. The damage it has left behind is much greater than could be expected. And after all this time flogging the area will continue to move north as a tropical storm during the next few days.

The damage produced has been largely due to Harvey's stagnation over the area, stayed too long in the same place. This unusual tour aggravated the flooding in Houston, to the point of beating the record of floods suffered on the continental United States. The previous record was produced by Hurricane Amelia in 1978, with a maximum rainfall of 48 inches. Harvey hit 51,88 inches (over 1,30 meters) Tuesday, and more rainfall is expected.

Trump stands in solidarity with all those affected in the area (NBC News)

Just when Trump was visiting the affected area, two reservoirs were overflowed yesterday. The consequences of Harvey that rage on the area as if it were never going to escape, forced to evacuate a county southeast of Houston, the most affected area.

The counts already rise to 16 dead, thousands of people rescued, and tens of thousands evacuated from the area, most of the Houston area, right now flooded. It is also the fourth most populous city in the United States, with more than 2 million inhabitants. Damage costs already rise to the level of the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which also occurred between August 23 and 31.

This has epic proportions. No one has ever seen anything like this »These were the words of Donald Trump at the meeting held in Corpus Christi, and chaired by the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbot. The president of the United States has taken the opportunity to recognize and praise the work of the bodies that are collaborating with the aid of those affected. Urge and encourage to do it "better than ever", so that in 5 or 10 years it cannot be said that not everything was done. Some of the images of the panorama were provided in this video of the FOX news. Further, It also comments on the consequences of infections that may have, pests such as mosquitoes, allergies, etc.

The overflowing reservoirs

The consequences of the overflow of the reservoirs, the Barker and Addick dams, are evident in the following images. So much so that the National Meteorological Service have had to add two additional colors to the map that measures rainfall. Historically, the map has been capped at 15 inches of rain, from now on the new cap will be 30 inches. We can see the differences in the measurements in the map that appears from minute 1:20 of the video.

Precipitation expected in the area is about 5 inches a day for 2/3 more days. The river levels are historic, just like the floods. It is expected that, in addition to the count of those affected, in next days some 450.000 people request help for the consequences of the effects to be found.

Coldplay composes "Houston" in honor of those affected

The British band, dedicated a song called "Houston", played it for the first and last time at a concert in Miami, Florida. "We grew up loving country music, and that's what we think of when we go to Texas"said the Coldplay singer-songwriter excitedly during the concert.

Thousands of people have contributed to the aid, and some stories that will never be known. Even a reporter who stopped a police car to help a truck driver who couldn't get out of his truck. Finally the man could be rescued, giving many thanks and thanks for what they had done for him.

We say goodbye leaving the filming of this song by Coldplay from their official channel. From here we also hope that this great city where you are sent to space, recovers as best and as soon as possible.
