COP22 is functioning after the entry into force of the Paris Agreement. As every day I bring you the news about this historic agreement on climate change. The already president of the Spanish Government, Mariano Rajoy, He has traveled to Marrakech to attend the UN Framework Convention for the fight against Climate Change. This is his first appointment abroad since he was reinstated as chief executive.

The Paris Agreement on Climate Change was signed in the French capital in December last year, however Spain it has not yet ratified the Agreement. It has not been possible because Spain has not had a government in almost ten months.

Rajoy attends the meeting in which 197 countries are already participating. It is a legally binding and almost universal text, in which all the countries that have ratified it, undertake to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to prevent the planet's average temperatures from rising by two degrees.

We reiterate that the objective of the Paris Agreement is to address the global warming. All countries must make voluntary contributions to reduce gases to the atmosphere and will be reviewed every five years. In addition, the more developed countries will have to financially support the less developed ones, so that the balance and opportunities for economic growth are equitable for all the countries that have ratified the Agreement.

At the COP22 that takes place in Marrakech, the applications that were agreed in Paris are being advanced. In this way, the necessary mechanisms are put in place to make the Agreement work. Above all, what is being adjusted more and from the beginning are the development of information systems that, in a totally transparent way, allow to measure countries' efforts to reduce emissions.

The Spanish Government assures that it is committed to the success of this Agreement and that it will join the fight against climate change. Rajoy will be received at the climate summit by the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI and by the UN Secretary General.
