Tornadoes are impressive weather phenomena, but they can also be very destructive. Although SpainFor the moment, only those of EF0, EF1, EF2 and some EF3 have been observed, we cannot forget that the risk is always there.
So let's know how to survive a tornado.
Abroad
It is impossible to know in good time where the next tornado will form. Therefore, it can easily surprise us when we are abroad. What do we have to do in this case?
- If we are driving, what we will do is try to find a nearby shelter. If we cannot find it, we will make sure that we have the seatbelt on - something that, remember, is mandatory - and we will bend down so that our body is as low as possible, and we will place our hands on the head.
- If we are walking, we have to find some underground shelter, such as a ditch.
- If we are sailing, we will move perpendicular to the direction of the water sleeves. If we see that it is going to collide with the boat, we will throw ourselves into the sea since this way we will avoid being injured.
In a building
If it surprises us inside a building or our home, we have to go to a room where there are no windows that is as close as possible to the center of the house. If there is a basement, so much the better. We will squat on the ground and cover our heads with our hands and arms.
Where NOT to go?
There are certain areas that can be very dangerous and that you should not go under any circumstances when a tornado forms, and they are:
- RVs
- Wood houses
- Tall buildings
- Buildings with wide, flat roofs, such as coffee shops or gyms
- Open rooms with many windows
When it has passed, we will carefully exit the shelter and call emergency services.
