If we want to stop climate change, one of the best things we can do is bet on renewable energy. In Spain, the country of the Sun, we could live perfectly using them. The air and water would not be polluted, so the quality of life would improve.

Even so, for the moment oil remains the main protagonist of our day to day. Faced with this situation, Greenpeace activists they painted a giant sun in Barcelona, specifically in Plaza Francesc Macià in order to support renewable energy.

The action, which took place on the night of June 21, 2017, the day of the summer solstice, has surprised everyone. About twenty people were the authors of a giant Sun of 50 meters in diameter, using more than 2.000 liters of ecological paint. The extended rays surrounded the square in the different ways that start from the roundabout with a single purpose: claim the end of the sun tax. According to activists, the Spanish Government remains anchored in the past in terms of energy issues.

For them, our leaders continue to "define aid for dirty energy such as coal or nuclear", and not only that, but "in European negotiations all their interest is in securing clauses so that Spain may fail to comply with the new renewable objectives with impunity or to legitimize the Sun tax throughout Europe“Said Sara Pizzinato, head of Greenpeace's renewables campaign.

What is the Sun Tax? It's about a tax for each solar panel you want to have, which punishes self-consumption. In residences it will be 9 euros per year plus VAT per kilowatt of power in each of the panels that it has, while in industries this rate will be paid plus another variable according to the consumption they have.

The painting was removed by a cleaning crew on the morning of June 22.
