As if it were the beginning of a horror story, on few occasions it has been possible to see in the sky what is known as globular ray or spark. A brilliant ball of light that leaves everyone who sees it in awe that it is related to thunderstorms.

For a long time it was considered a myth, an illusion or a product of the imagination of some humans. But now it is known that is a phenomenon that really exists, although not much is known about him yet.

Although it is not yet clear how it is formed, experts believe that the energy that powers the glow is generated by a slowly released chemical combination. To try to find out more, they have tried to create them in the labs, but without convincing results.

What is known at the moment is that during an electrical storm, it may be the case that it forms. If it does It can take different shapes: ovoid, spherical, teardrop or rod-shaped. The dimension can also vary a lot: between 10 and 40cm, so it is a visible phenomenon that is not the same to see from the open air than in a documentary from your  sofa.

Globular lightning, a rare phenomenon

Although it lasts a few seconds, in that time it is capable of causing damage. On October 21, 1638, in a phenomenon called "The Great Storm" one of them destroyed the roof of the church of San Pancracio, in the county of Devon (England). In our most recent history, one was seen on February 25, 2012, in the city of Rosario (Argentina). There, a witness suffered the explosion of one of them while he was in the kitchen of his home.

This is a phenomenon that for centuries has attracted much attention from those who have been lucky enough to see it. If one occurs close to home, feel free to take a picture of it: there are very few documented observations.
