NASA: Global warming is accelerating

While the phenomenon of global warming it is a natural occurrence, it is not so much that it is accelerating. 2016 is being the hottest year since there are records, surpassing the data for 2014 and 2015, registering the highest global average temperature.

Although it may seem otherwise, this dynamic remains fixed in the last data recorded.

As you can see in the image above, from the Industrial Revolution the temperature has a tendency to increase. To date, it has risen 1,38 degrees centigrade, thus approaching the limit of 1,5ºC that was set in the 2015 Paris Climate Convention. For experts, the planet is warming too fast, which makes it unlikely that it will stay below that climatic limit. In fact, to achieve this, carbon dioxide emissions would have to be reduced, and very quickly, according to Gavin Schmidt, director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

During the last century the increase in temperature was 10X faster delivery than the rate recorded in the total of the thousand years before, which should make us reflect on how we are treating the planet. In addition, experts anticipate that during this century, the world will warm at least 20 times faster than the historical average.

Drought

The consequences of global warming are the melting of the poles, which causes the sea level to rise, thus putting the lives of people and animals living at low altitudes at risk. It is, therefore, a very serious problem, especially if we consider that the level could increase around 90 centimeters during this century, and more than 20 meters for the years to come, which would undoubtedly accelerate the known "sixth mass extinction" of the species.
