Fires are events that occur, many times, naturally. Some forests and grasslands can only be revived after being consumed by fire, but the reality is that on a warmer planet, these phenomena will be more and more dangerous.
The question is, why? There are many human beings who seem to take a strange pleasure from burning plants and threatening the life of an entire ecosystem, but we cannot ignore that a longer summer means, in many parts of the globe, a longer duration of the dry season.
We all know: water puts out fire. When there is no such water, grasses, tree trunks, everything can be quickly consumed as soon as lightning hits the ground. Due to the increase in temperatures and the decrease in rainfall, the fires will gradually cease to be a "medicine" for ecosystems and become a nightmare.
Según un article published in the scientific journal 'Nature', showed that the average area of forest burned in the northwestern United States alone from 2003 to 2012 was almost 5% greater than in the years 1972 to 1983; And not only that, but the fire season grew from an average of 23 days to 116 in the same periods.
What can we do? Well, several things. Although the study talks about the fires that occur in the US, in a country like Spain they are also measures that could be easily taken. You just have to avoid building in risk areas, and plant a tree (or two) each time one is felled.
Also, public education is very important: it will be useless to manage the risk of fires properly if the population is not aware of how important it is to protect the environment.
