Differences between hurricane, cyclone and typhoon

Hurricane

The autumn season is a time when Asia and America suffer from large numbers of hurricanes, cyclones, and typhoons. These meteorological phenomena have some other difference although many people think that they are the same.

Then I am going to explain to you clearly what each of these phenomena so common at this time of year consists of. so that you know how to differentiate them without any problem.

Hurricanes

Hurricanes typically occur in the North Atlantic Ocean and the North Pacific Ocean. Depending on the intensity of the phenomenon, they can be divided into five categories, the first being that which includes hurricanes with winds exceeding 250 km / h. Hurricanes tend to weaken when they make landfall so they are usually much more dangerous while in the water. Some of the most famous hurricanes have been Katrina, Sandy or Irene.

Typhoons

Typhoons occur in the Pacific Northwest and West and in parts of the Indian Ocean. Some of the most devastating have been Yolanda or Nina. It is the same meteorological phenomenon as the hurricane, which happens that receives a different name for the area in which it occurs.

Typhoon Vongfong

Cyclones

Cyclones are formed in tropical areas of the planet such as the South Atlantic, the South Pacific and some areas of the Southeast Indian Ocean. Both hurricanes and typhoons are tropical cyclones in which strong winds and abundant rainfall occur. For a cyclone to form, the water has to be at a temperature above 28 degrees Celsius and with weak winds at high levels in the atmosphere.

I hope you have made clear the differences between such popular phenomena as they are hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones and from now on you know how to differentiate them without problems.
