It seemed that it was not going to come, but winter is here. Or rather, the most difficult days of that season have already begun. The cold wave that is currently affecting us, especially the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, is leaving values below zero in many parts of the country, which added to the strong wind of up to 80km / h, makes the thermal sensation very cold.
Major frosts have occurred in the Port of Leitariegos, Asturias (-13ºC), Medina de Rioseco, Valladolid (-6.8ºC), in Sardón de Duero, Valladolid (-6,1ºC), in Palencia (-4ºC), Sierra de Tramuntana, in Mallorca (-4ºC); and weak in Ávila (-2ºC), Segovia (-1ºC).
The use of chains is mandatory in many sections
The cold wave is leaving the landscapes of a good part of the country covered with snow, which forces to carry chains in many sections to avoid problems, such as in the following places:
- Asturian mountain ports: San Isidro, in Aller; Tarna, in Case; Somiedo and Puerto de San Lorenzo, in Somiedo, and the port of Ventana in Teverga.
- Burgos roads: BU-571, in Río de la Sía, and on Bu-572, near Río de Lunada.
- Roads of León: LE-233 between Boca de Huergano and Besande, on the LE-473 near Pola de Gordón, on the LE-481 between San Emiliano and Torrebarrio, on the LE-495 between Cabrillanes and Meroy, and on the LE- 497 between Villalbino and Caboalles de Abajo.
It could snow very low

For the next few days, the models indicate that it could snow at levels below 200 meters above sea level, especially from tomorrow and Wednesday, which would be an extraordinary event considering that rains in the form of snow do not usually fall at such low altitudes.
