VIDEO: A drone flies over a 40km crevasse in Antarctica

Antarctica

Antarctica is melting. As the average temperature of the planet rises as a result of the uncontrolled emission of greenhouse gases, the ice is melting as if it were ice cream exposed to the intense summer sun.

At the South Pole there is beginning to be more and more dramatic evidence of climate change. The last one is a huge fissure that has doubled in length in just three months, and that has been recorded by a drone of the British Antarctic Survey, a scientific organization that has a permanent research base in Antarctica called Halley VI.

The Halloween crack, as scientists call it, It measures 40 kilometers in length and has forced the evacuation of the research base that was near it. Fortunately, the Halley VI is made up of eight modules that can be detached and towed using hydraulic legs mounted on skis, so it can be easily moved away from emerging crevices.

Still, the fact that they appear is a problem. By the end of the century the temperature in this region of the world could rise 6 degrees Celsius as we mentioned in this article, that is, half of what it is expected to do in the rest of the planet.

The video, recorded by a drone from the British Antarctic Survey, is truly shocking. You can clearly see the huge crack that has appeared in Antarctica, a continent where already at the beginning of the year it was detected that one of the largest icebergs called Larsen C is about to break off.

It is, therefore, very necessary to take measures that are really effective to counteract the effects of climate change, not only in Antarctica, but throughout the planet. Otherwise, the consequences could be catastrophic.
